Absolutely! Adding wheels to one of our urban planter boxes is a fantastic idea to create a mobile garden solution. It allows you to easily move your plants to chase the sun, rearrange your patio, or bring them indoors during harsh weather.
The most effective method is to attach heavy-duty locking casters to the bottom of the planter box. Locking casters are essential—they provide stability when you want the planter to stay in place and roll smoothly when you need to move it. We recommend using at least four casters, one for each corner, to ensure proper support and balance.
For a successful installation, first, ensure your planter box is empty and lightweight. Flip it over onto a protected surface. Position a caster in each corner, approximately one inch from the edges. Mark the screw holes, then pre-drill pilot holes to prevent the wood from splitting. Finally, secure the casters using the provided hardware, typically sturdy wood screws or bolts. For extra heavy loads or very large planters, consider adding a center support caster.
This simple modification transforms your static planter into a versatile, portable garden feature, perfect for urban balconies, rooftops, and patios where flexibility is key.
