Great question—it’s one of the most common we hear from urban gardeners balancing busy schedules and limited space.
The short answer is: Our urban planter boxes are designed to be delivered partially pre-assembled, but a small amount of DIY is required to complete the setup. Here’s how we strike that balance between convenience and practicality.
What comes pre-assembled?
The main frame and side panels are factory-joined, so you won’t need to fumble with aligning complex joints or drilling basic connections. For our standard sizes (24”, 36”, and 48” lengths), the four corners and base structure are secured before shipping. This cuts your hands-on time down to roughly 10–15 minutes, even for a first-timer.
What DIY is needed?
You’ll need to attach the optional drainage liner (if you bought it), snap in the bottom support bars, and secure the decorative top trim with the included hex key. We also recommend you install a simple self-watering insert—which slips into place without tools—if you ordered one. That’s it. No power tools, no glue, no complicated instructions.
Why not fully pre-assembled?
Shipping a fully built planter significantly increases weight and risks damage during transit. By keeping the assembly light (just a few easy steps), we ensure lower shipping costs, fewer return issues, and a sturdier final product once you lock the pieces together on-site. Plus, you get the satisfaction of a quick “I built this” moment without the headaches.
What if you really want zero DIY?
While we don’t offer a fully pre-assembled model at this time, we provide clear, picture-based instructions and a QR code to a 90-second video walkthrough. Many customers say even their non-handy friends complete the assembly within the 15-minute mark.
In short: Our planters are 70% pre-assembled out of the box. You just add the final touches with minimal effort. So get ready to plant—your foliage is closer to enjoying sunlight than you think.
