These mixes contain materials like perlite, vermiculite, or coarse sand to improve aeration and water flow. Elevate your planter box slightly off the ground using pot feet or bricks. This allows water to freely escape from the holes and prevents them from becoming sealed against a flat surface. Finally, be mindful of watering. Overwatering is the fastest way to create waterlogged conditions. Check the soil moisture by feeling it a couple of inches down; water only when it feels dry.
