Squirrels digging in your urban planter boxes can be frustrating, damaging both plants and soil. Fortunately, several humane and effective strategies can deter these curious critters. Start with physical barriers, the most reliable method. Place a layer of wire mesh or chicken wire just beneath the soil surface or over it. The squirrels dislike the feel on their paws and will move on. You can also use cloches or netting to cover vulnerable plants and seedlings.
