Thread a durable steel cable through the drainage holes or a reinforced anchor point on the planter and loop it around a fixed structure, like a railing or post, securing it with a robust padlock. Adding weight is another simple deterrent. Fill the bottom third of your planter with a layer of gravel or rocks before adding soil; this makes the box significantly heavier and harder to carry away quickly. For a more discreet approach, use commercial anti-theft anchors designed for outdoor furniture. These are bolted to the ground or floor, with a connecting plate that gets fixed to the interior base of your planter box. Finally, strategic placement can enhance security. Position your planters in well-lit, visible areas or within a gated space. Consider using planters with built-in anchor points or opting for very large, cumbersome containers that are inherently difficult to move.
