First, observe leaf color. Healthy leaves are typically a vibrant green. Yellowing leaves, especially on older growth, often signal a nitrogen deficiency. Purple or reddish tints on the underside of leaves can indicate a lack of phosphorus. Stunted growth or unusually small new leaves suggest your plants might be hungry for essential nutrients.
