Moving to a new apartment presents the challenge of transporting large urban planter boxes. With proper planning, you can relocate them safely and efficiently. First, prepare your plants. Water them lightly a day or two before the move—avoid soggy soil, which is heavier and messy. For very large plants, consider pruning them slightly to make handling easier. Next, prepare the planters. Empty lightweight, filler soil if possible to reduce weight. For solid, heavy planters, this may not be feasible. Securely wrap the planter box itself. Use moving blankets, bubble wrap, or old towels, and secure them with strong packing tape or stretch wrap. This protects the planter's finish and prevents scratches on other items. For the actual move, equipment is key. A sturdy, flat furniture dolly is indispensable. Carefully tilt the planter onto the dolly, using the blanket as a buffer. Secure the planter to the dolly with moving straps or ropes. Always lift with your legs, not your back, when loading. If using a moving truck, place planters against a wall and secure them to prevent shifting during transit. For delicate or extremely heavy concrete planters, hiring professional movers might be the safest and most cost-effective option. Once at your new home, unwrap the planters immediately, check your plants for stress, and place them in a suitable spot with adequate light.
